Any costs paid on top of the agreed price in an economic exchange. Transaction costs include the costs of searching for an appropriate exchange opportunity, negotiating a contract and enforcing it. They also contain supplementary payments like tariffs or ad hoc taxes and the opportunity costs of time wasted in dealing with bureaucracy

Издержки, возникающие в процессе ведения переговоров о коммерческой сделке, ее заключения и контроля за ходом ее выполнения. Они включают как собственно издержки, например, на обработку информации или на транспорт, так и — что важно — затрачиваемое время. В широкой трактовке это, собственно, все издержки общества, которые не относятся непосредственно к физическому процессу производства благ. Смысл и значение Т.и. впервые раскрыл Р.Коуз, удостоенный за это Нобелевской премии по экономике (см. Коуза теорема). Одна из задач государства — такое совершенствование социально-экономического механизма, при котором Т.и. участников рыночного обмена были бы минимальны.
